Frederick Stoutland is Permanent Visiting Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Uppsala University.  He received his B.A. at St. Olaf College and his Ph.D. at Yale.  He taught for 35 years at St. Olaf College, becoming Professor Emeritus in 1996.  He is Docent in Philosophy at the University of Helsinki and at Uppsala University.  His current interests are philosophy of action (especially reasons for action), philosophy of language (especially truth and meaning), philosophy of mind (especially the status of the attitudes), and Wittgenstein.
